Bag Factory is delighted to announce that Vincent Scheir (Germany) will undertake a fully-funded residency at the Bag Factory from 27 Feb – 26 May 2021. As part of TURN 2 RESIDENCY The aim of the project is to facilitate research for emerging curators and cultural practitioners with curatorial experience based in Germany and in the African continent with ambitions to make them the starting point for more international collaborations and knowledge sharing opportunities
Vincent Schier is a curator and art historian living and working in Berlin, Germany, and elsewhere. He is the Artistic Director at Kunstverein Göttingen and has been working at the Kunsthaus Dresden, the GfZK in Leipzig and at the art association nGbK in Berlin. Schier works in institutions and as a freelancer, appreciating both. In his curatorial work he is interested in collaborative and collective working methods, which is why he keeps returning to working in groups. He is a member of the curatorial collective RealismusStudio and of other groups, which sometimes don’t even have a name. Also, in his exhibition making practice, Schier’s main focus lies on the individual in relation to societ(ies) and space—physical and social space as well as emotional space.
Art at Protest
His work is concerned with art as a form of political and social protest. These questions have formed for him: Where and in what form does art / do artistic interventions occur in political protest? What are the possibilities in artistic protest? What does protest mean for art?
