Coming from Barbados to South Africa has been an overwhelming experience for me.
South African society seems polarized, submissive within an extreme social structure compared to that of Barbados.
I came face to face with extreme poverty and dehumanizing living conditions in Kliptown, Soweto. This forced me to redefine my concept of what a ghetto is. Kliptown contrasts terribly with the large houses, high fences and electric security of the Northern suburbs. These diverse situations stimulated my creativity.
I would like to thank the Bag Factory and my fellow resident artists who created an enlightening and interactive experience for me which will nourish my creative ability for years to come.
Jah Bless!
