  • Skills Workshops

With our skills-workshop programme we endeavour to ‘fill the gaps’ in the visual arts sector by running professional workshops for artists, outreach projects for those who lack access to arts-training and audience development workshops.

    PROFESSIONAL SKILLS WORKSHOPS

Within the concext of visual artistic production, there are a variety of skills that artists often need in order to function on a professional level. This covers skills that are vital to the visual artist’s survival in the “real world”. These skills could  range from basic photoshop use to proposal writing. By assisting the artists to develop these skills the Bag Factory aims to create a visual arts sector that it less reliant on outsiders to produce, develop and sell work. This reliance often stifles the sector leaving artists lost as to how to get involved in communtiy projects or apply for government funding.

    OUTREACH SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Many in South Africa lack even the most basic access to arts training and opportunities. With our workshop programme we endeavour to reach those who have not had this basic human right, and give some support to under-resourced communities.

This lack of access and support for the visual arts in townships, rural areas and poverty stricken communities has spurred us to stimulate interest and passion in those who have limited opportunity to express themselves. The Bag Factory offers practising artists the opportunity to take their talents to these communities and enthuse their participants through a process of ‘learning-by-exchange’.

    AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT

South Africa an impoverished art-buying market that impacts on the potential income of visual artists. With a greater understanding and appreciation of the visual arts, people will be encouraged to appreciate and purchase art, contributing to the growth of the art market in South Africa.

Our Audience development workshops take the form of talks on art, art purchasing and art investment as well as artist’s talks. These events are aimed at a broad audience from schools to companies, and aim to encourage understanding, purchasing and general consumption of South African art.
